WELCOME TO ISSUE 21 OF THE DRIVER TRETT DIGEST | OPEN FOR BUSINESS
This issue is a bumper Asia Pacific (APAC) focussed edition.
Asia Pacific has seen, and will continue to see, major commitments to the construction and engineering sectors. Senior Consultant Angie Chai and Operations Director Danang Projosujadi provide context on the magnitude of such developments with their articles on the infrastructure works of Hong Kong and Indonesia respectively.
Such developments will come with significant challenges, particularly given the global conditions we all now find ourselves in. Kingwah Liew's The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and the Challenges Faced by Contractors in Malaysia, Ashlea Read's Game of Drones, and Jungguk Lee's How to Claim Compensation for Idling Owned Plant: Depreciation Costs or Rental Value? all address some key issues that are likely to be considered, or possibly reconsidered, by parties dealing with claims and disputes.
Despite the challenging year, at Driver Trett we have continued to strengthen our team globally and we have recently made appointments across the Asia Pacific region. In this issue, we are delighted to introduce, David Merritt as Managing Director and Head of the Middle East and Asia Pacific, Mark Murphy as Director, Adrian Kong as Delay Expert and Director, both based in our Singapore office, and David Satchell as Technical Expert, based in Hong Kong.
Thanks to our external contributors from HFW, LCM Finance and Eldan Law. As Ben Bury, Partner at HFW titles his article, Hong Kong is Still ‘Open for Business’ - For the Resolution of Construction Disputes. The construction industry may be facing unprecedented challenges, but we are very much still open for business.
