Q&A with Khalid Yousri

Q&A with Khalid Yousri

Khalid Yousri has been promoted to UAE Country Manager. We took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his new role, his career path and what makes him tick.

What is your role within the Group?

My current role within Driver Group is Director – UAE Country Manager, which includes managing our operations in KSA, as well as providing support across the Middle East. My main focus is on the operational side of Driver Trett, where we specialise in claim preparation and assessment and dispute avoidance. I am assisted by Claims Directors, Associate Directors, and Consultants, and overall, we have over 20 members of staff based in the UAE and KSA, coming from diverse backgrounds.

Who has been the greatest influence on your career?

It is very difficult to name a specific person, however, I do appreciate, and am grateful, for the effort made by every colleague and boss that I have worked with over the years, and I have been lucky enough to work with several great people. Starting at the beginning of my career whilst working on construction projects in Egypt, to working onshore and offshore in Kuwait, to where I am now with Driver Trett. Working with Driver Trett was a great milestone in my career, as I have always thought Driver Trett is a place where you learn something new every single day. I owe a lot to everyone I have worked with including our clients.

What has been the best moment of your career?

Every single project in which I have been part of the construction of can be considered special to me. My best moments were always when I was able to complete and handover a construction project. As a claims consultant, there is no better moment than when you assist in reaching an amicable settlement between disputed parties, and I can also say that the progress of my career with Driver Trett over the last five years has been a personal achievement for me. I can’t deny that the promotions I achieved from a Senior Consultant up to a Director, were always special to me, as I always felt that I was adding value to the place I belong to. I do believe that I found my place and my career at Driver Trett, which makes every moment in this place very special.

What makes you tick?

Coming from a construction contractors background, it is knowing that I am able to participate in resolving the dispute. Understanding the number of struggles that construction parties face and suffer from, my motivation and ambition to succeed grows when I see challenges in new cases, and it is these challenges that makes me tick, and fuel my passion and commitment towards my career.

Tell us a little-known fact about you.

I used to dive when I was working offshore as a project engineer, and the highest scaffolding I have ever climbed was almost 10 floors high!

What are you looking forward to in your new role at DT?

I am looking forward to growing our business across the Middle East and expanding our client base. I also aim to improve client satisfaction, as well as add value to the construction market.
