Claims, Disputes and the 'Mystery' of Global Claims

Claims, Disputes and the Mystery of Global Claims

Join James Millen, a Technical Director from Driver Trett's Australia offices for a RICS CPD event discussing:

  • “what the ‘continuing mystery’ was in the recent case of Built Environs v Perth Airport that the court required the claimant to unlock”.
  • why the global claim was determined to be ‘legally embarrassing’;
  • what the court affirmed must be established for a global claim to succeed; and
  • the guidance that the decision (and others) provides for practitioners drafting or defending global claims.

Your Speaker:

James is an RICS Chartered Quantity Surveyor and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, with over 20 years' experience in the construction industry.

From building rhino-proof shelters in Namibia (that he wasn’t prepared to test) through to Australia’s mega-projects, James has administered construction contracts, claims and disputes for contractors, clients, project managers and as an independent expert.

James’ paper – ‘To what extent has case law separated the Australian and UK courts’ approach to global claims’ – received a commendation from the Society of Construction Law Australia.

Location:

Central Park, 152-158 St Georges Terrace, Perth, WA, 6000

Time:

05:15 PM - 06:45 PM
